LAGOS OEQA Adopts Plan to Strengthen Education Quality in Lagos
… Holds 2026 Management Retreat
The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has agreed to adopt a comprehensive Strategic Plan aimed at strengthening education quality assurance and improving learning outcomes across Lagos State
The plan provides a unified framework for the Agency’s vision, mission, core values, priorities and performance expectations, aligning all departments and zonal offices with the Lagos State Development Plan and the THEMES+ Agenda .
This was part of the resolve reached at the just concluded 2026 three-day Management Retreat, held from Thursday, 22 January to Saturday, 24 January 2026, at CitiHeights Hotel, Opebi Link Road, Ikeja with the theme: “Aligning Strategic Thoughts and Direction.”
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, commended OEQA Management for its commitment to teamwork and alignment with statutory responsibilities.
Alli-Balogun stressed the importance of professionalism and emotional intelligence during school visits, while directing that all incidents in schools, minor or major, must be promptly reported.
The Commissioner also highlighted key compliance areas, including school infrastructure, annual medical reports, learner assessment practices and the prevention of illegal or unauthorised admissions .
In her address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, described the resolve for strategic alignment and consistency in operations by Offie of Education Quality Assurance as a good development for the State’s educational system.
Dokunmu-Adegbite urged the leadership of OEQA, to move beyond routine inspection to a culture of continuous improvement driven by evidence, empathy and learner-centred accountability .
The Director-General, OEQA, Dr. Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa in his address, noted that the agency is committed to enhancing the quality of education in our state through strategic goals captured as SCRIPT which stands for Staff Capacity, Collaboration, Revenue, Improved Governance, Professionalism and Technology.
To achieve the SCRIPT, he said “We aim to build staff capacity and institutional resilience by improving technical competence, motivation, and welfare of staff, while leveraging technology-driven tools to boost productivity. We will also foster strong alliances with relevant government agencies and security bodies to promote inter-agency collaboration and public trust.
Furthermore, the DG informed that OEQA will strengthen its financial sustainability by diversifying and stabilizing revenue streams, improving efficiency in registration and revenue collection processes, and initiating strong policies for improved governance.
Dr. Ogunmuyiwa promised that his tenure will professionalize and modernize education quality assurance practices by establishing structured quality assurance standards and ethical frameworks, institutionalizing school self-evaluation and continuous improvement culture, and deploying data-driven decision-making and digital systems to drive our operations.
“By achieving these strategic goals, we are confident that we can enhance the quality of education and promote a culture of excellence in our schools,” the Director-General added.
