Investigating Allegations of Sexual Assault

OFFICE OF EDUCATION QUALITY ASSURANCE (OEQA) PRESS RELEASE

The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), is investigating allegations of sexual assault involving a JS 2E student, Opeyemi Shittu, at State Junior High School, Alimosho. The alleged perpetrator is the student’s father, Olaitan Shittu.

A team from OEQA, Ministry of Youths & Social Development, and Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) visited the school on March 17, 2026, to gather facts. The investigation aims to verify the allegations, assess the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy implementation.

Preliminary findings indicate the survivor’s mother passed away in December 2025, and she has been living with her father. The grandmother reported concerns about the survivor’s absence and sanitary pads. The survivor alleged her father sexually assaulted her multiple times since February 2026.

Medical tests conducted on the survivor confirmed she is not pregnant. The police are handling the case, and the survivor has been taken to the gender center for support.

The Lagos State Government assures the public that this matter is being taken seriously, and necessary actions will be taken to ensure justice is served.
