OEQA Begins Monitoring of Schools’ Resumption

The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has commenced a statewide monitoring exercise to assess schools’ resumption activities for the new academic session.

The Director-General of OEQA, Dr. Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, disclosed this on Monday during a monitoring visit to Ajao Estate Junior Grammar School, Oshodi, Lagos.

Dr. Ogunmuyiwa explained that the exercise was designed to evaluate the level of preparedness of both public and private schools below the tertiary level, with particular emphasis on learner safety within school premises.

According to him, the monitoring would cover all six education districts in the state and would be conducted by evaluators drawn from the OEQA headquarters and its 20 zonal offices.

He noted that the initiative was also intended to confirm that schools held pre-resumption meetings to adequately prepare staff for academic activities and ensure a conducive teaching and learning environment.

“The monitoring exercise is aimed at strengthening the commencement of the new academic session, improving stakeholder engagement and enhancing overall performance. It will also support effective teaching delivery, boost learning capabilities and improve learning outcomes,” Dr. Ogunmuyiwa said.

The 10-day exercise, which commenced on Monday, January 12, 2026, is scheduled to end on Friday ,January 23, 2026.

Top officials of the agency who accompanied the Director-General on the exercise include the Coordinating Director, Education District VI, Mrs. Folusade Sofola; Director, Quality Assurance, Mr. Hakeem Kehinde Idowu; Director, Monitoring and Investigation, Mrs. Kafilat Ashimi; Director, Administration and Human Resource, Mrs. Mojisola Bamgbose; Director, Private Education and Special Programmes, Mrs. Kehinde Ogunlana and Head of the Statistics Unit, Mr. Johnson Adeyemi, among others.

Schools visited during the monitoring exercise include Ajao Estate Primary School, Ajao Estate Junior Grammar School, and Ajao Estate Senior Grammar School, all within Education District VI.
