OEQA HONOURS STAFF WITH MERIT AWARD TO ENHANCE SERVICE DELIVERY

In its bid to continuously raise the bar of quality education delivery in Lagos State, the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) on Monday held its Annual Merit Award to appreciate the efforts of staff, among whom were recipients of different Awards for their incredible support to the Agency in ensuring total quality delivery in education.

The Coordinating Director of OEQA, Mr. Remi Abdul, extolled participants and awardees at the event held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa-Ikeja, Lagos, for their excellence, dedication, remarkable and unwavering commitment to delivering the mandate of quality education in Lagos State.

In his keynote address, Mr. Abdul disclosed that the gathering was to celebrate excellence, dedication and unwavering commitment among remarkable staff who had gone extra mile in delivering the Agency’s mandate towards ensuring quality education in Lagos State.

Abdul further stated that the Annual Merit Award was to nurture the Agency’s Mission for the relentless pursuit of standardisation through monitoring and evaluation of both public and private schools, alongside other responsibilities that strengthen quality control and regulation. He added that the service delivery of the Agency had impacted education generally in Lagos State and had set the benchmark for others to follow.

“The Annual Merit Award Ceremony is a cornerstone of our agency’s commitment to fostering a culture of excellence. These awards are more than accolades-they are a testament to the values we hold dear – hard work, innovation, diligence, and commitment. By recognising outstanding contributions, we inspire a collective drive towards achieving even greater milestones”, he said.

Mr. Abdul further appreciated the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for prioritising education in the THEMES Plus Agenda while also commending the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun for his exemplary leadership.

Earlier, the Director of Admin. & Human Resource, Mrs. Mojisola Bamgbose, said that the Merit Award was instituted to celebrate the uncommon feat of some of the officers in making the OEQA a force to reckon with in the education sector.

She expressed gratitude to the Award recipients and the entire OEQA team for their hard work, dedication, tireless efforts and commitment to excellence that had continued to inspire the Office to strive for greatness.

“Today, we gather to celebrate excellence, recognise outstanding achievements and honour the hard work and dedication of our colleagues. The OEQA Merit Award is a testament to our organisation’s commitment to quality, excellence and continuous improvement. It recognises individuals who have demonstrated exceptional performance, innovation, and dedication to our organization’s mission”, said Mrs. Bamgbose.

Given the briefs on the evolution of the Agency, the Coordinating Director of Education District V, Mr. Ekundayo Adekunle, recalled that the journey started in 2011 when the defunct inspectorate department came up with the idea of an independent agency and was followed by the State Government constituting a Committee to determine its considerations.

He said that the Agency was birthed between 2012 and 2013 by the merger of Inspectorate Departments in all Education Agencies in Lagos State and the Private Education and Special Programmes Department of the Ministry of Education. The Agency officially started on March 2nd, 2015 with Mrs. Ronke Soyombo as the pioneer Director-General.

The sidelines of the well-attended event were reading mock news in Yoruba and Egun language to spice up the event and ensure that the participants unwound after lots of stress in delivering on the mandate of the Agency.

High points of the event were the Presentation of Awards and Gifts to 35 Awardees in different categories across the six education districts and the Headquarters. This ranged from Best Adhoc Staff, Best Junior Staff, Best Senior Officer, Best Management Staff, and Outstanding Officers in the Agency, including Appreciation/Recognition Awards to the Honourable Commissioner and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry For Basic and Secondary Education, among others.

The event was also witnessed by the Representatives of the Tutors-General/Permanent Secretaries in Education District II and III, Mrs. Clara Adebayo and Mrs. Adewunmi among others.
