OEQA, Fidelity Bank Train 400 Lagos Private Schools on Approval and Quality Standards

The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), in partnership with Fidelity Bank Plc, has trained 400 proprietors, school leaders and administrators of yet-to-be-approved private schools in Lagos State on regulatory requirements and the school approval process.

The one-day free Approval Intervention Workshop, held on Thursday at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Alausa, Ikeja, was designed to equip participating schools with a clear understanding of the standards and requirements for approval and the delivery of safe, compliant and high-quality education.

Speaking at the workshop, the Director-General of OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, said the initiative was designed to address misconceptions about the approval process and equip private school operators with the knowledge and capacity required to meet and exceed the state’s educational standards.

Dr Ogunmuyiwa urged school proprietors to view regulatory compliance not as a burden, but as an opportunity to strengthen their institutions, enhance their credibility and improve learning outcomes.

He also emphasised the importance of child safeguarding and protection, effective school governance, adequate infrastructure, qualified personnel and curriculum compliance as critical components of quality education.

According to him, OEQA remains committed to engaging private schools as strategic partners in advancing the quality of education across Lagos State.

The Director-General commended Fidelity Bank Plc for its strategic partnership and continued support for the education sector, noting that strengthening private schools would contribute to expanding access to quality learning opportunities for children in the state.

The workshop brought together operators from 400 private schools and provided participants with practical guidance on the documentation, procedures and standards required to obtain school approval.

The intervention forms part of OEQA’s broader commitment to advancing quality assurance through stakeholder engagement, strategic partnerships, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

The agency said it would continue to collaborate with stakeholders in the private education sector to promote safer schools, stronger systems and improved educational standards in Lagos State.
