Lagos OEQA Advocates Stronger Multi-Agency Collaboration to Improve Education Quality in Lagos

The Director-General of Lagos State Education Quality Assurance, OEQA, Dr. Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa has called for increased collaboration among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in a bid to enhance educational outcomes in Lagos State.

He appealed during the Collaborative Technical Committee (CTC) Meeting convened by the Office of Education Quality Assurance on Tuesday at the OEQA headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, where key stakeholders gathered to deliberate on strategies to improve the quality of education delivery across the State.

Ogunmuyiwa noted that quality education remains a shared responsibility that requires deliberate coordination, sustained engagement, and actionable partnerships among all relevant agencies.

He described the meeting as a strategic platform where policy aligns with practice and institutional mandates are harmonised to tackle real challenges within schools.

The CTC platform, according to the DG, was initiated as a coordination mechanism to facilitate the sharing of insights from field evaluations, escalate systemic issues, align institutional interventions, and ensure that resolutions translate into measurable improvements in schools across the State.

He maintained that the meeting has proven to been effective as interventions have been received in different areas due to the collaboration in the past, hence the need to strengthen such relationship and make it better.

“We see learning beyond physical classrooms , there are other support services , some may not be physically seen but their contributions are quite significant and their impact usually felt.

“The CTC Meeting remains a key platform for driving synergy, accountability, and sustainable improvements within the State’s education system.” the DG explained.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded since the last meeting, attributing the achievements to collective efforts of stakeholders.

Dr. Ogunmuyiwa also reiterated the mandate of the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), noting that it is aptly captured in the acronym “REMI” : Regular, Evaluate, and Monitor to Improve Schools.

According to him, the core objective of this framework is to drive improved teaching standards and enhance learning outcomes across schools in Lagos State.

He further highlighted the agency’s 2026 strategic plan which is anchored on six key goals summarized in the acronym “S.C.R.I.P.T.”

Emphasizing the importance of synergy, Dr. Ogunmuyiwa pointed out that the “C” represents Collaboration, reflecting the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to strengthening partnerships among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for more effective service delivery in the education sector.

As part of efforts to deepen this collaborative approach, Dr. Ogunmuyiwa announced a new partnership between OEQA and the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).

He explained that the initiative aims to facilitate the registration of all school children in the State, a move expected to improve data-driven planning and ensure that students benefit from government interventions tailored to their needs.

Also in her remarks , the Head of Department, Planning, Research and Statistics at the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Mrs. Evelyn Pelemo, reiterated that the future of the education sector depends not only on well-articulated policies but also on the ability of stakeholders to work collaboratively in implementing them.

Speaking on the theme, “Strengthening Multi-Agency Collaboration for Improved Educational Outcomes in Lagos State,” Pelemo who was represented by Mr. David Ojelade, Head of Policy, Planning and Training, PRS Department, urged participants to actively contribute to deliberations, she called for the provision of timely and actionable updates, and identification of practical solutions within institutional mandates

She highlighted several pressing challenges confronting the education sector, including infrastructure deficits, environmental concerns, health and safety issues, gaps in curriculum delivery, as well as governance and compliance constraints.

According to her, these challenges are multi-dimensional and cut across the responsibilities of various MDAs, thereby necessitating integrated and coordinated responses rather than isolated interventions.

A Deputy Director , from the Ministry of Innovation , Science and Technology, Mrs. Ogunyinka Olayinka Funmilayo, while sharing her view about the meeting , commended the OEQA initiative, saying that it makes all MDAs feel part of the bigger education family.

She identified the need to strengthen collaboration between MIST and OEQA in order to improve ICT infrastructures in Lagos schools beyond the usual Science Laboratories, saying that setting up High Definition Cameras, for instance, will further enhance security of schools, among several other ICT interventions.
