LASG WELCOMES STUDENTS TO Y2021/2022 ACADEMIC SESSION

… Calls for vigilance and adherence to safety regulation in schools

Lagos State Government today welcomes all students in the State back to school after the end of session vacation. All schools in Lagos State resumed today Monday, 13th September, 2021 except for students of Lagos State Model Colleges and Upgraded schools, who are expected to resume in batches due to the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) by current SS3 students.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo welcoming the students, teaching, non-teaching staff and school Administrators back to school for the new academic session, declared that the adoption of a uniform academic calendar enables proper planning; ensuring pupils and students attend school for the number of days required in the term.

Mrs. Adefisayo commended the concerted efforts of everyone in the education sector for the modest success recorded in the 2020/2021 session despite the effect of the pandemic. In her words ‘’to the various award winners in the last academic session, please keep the fire burning; I encourage others to light up the fire, renew the healthy struggle for success; our new pupils/students should take the orientation seriously and be determined about success from day one’’

The Commissioner advised all stakeholders in the education sector to continue to be vigilant and ensure strict adherence to all school safety regulations in the face of covid-19 and its variants. She reiterated the need for school administrators to deploy all reasonable strategies for protection of pupils/students and school personnel.

She charged all pupils and students to remain focus ‘’make your parents proud, make the teachers proud and fulfilled, make our dear State proud and at the end of the session, make yourself proud of your achievement’’.

The Commissioner restated the commitment of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to continue the investment in education infrastructure, capacity development and welfare of school personnel. The Lagos education transformation agenda will be vigorously pursued to achieve the desired effect on school governance, personnel and pupils/students development in all area of intervention.

The Ministry of education last week released guidelines for resumption of all private and public schools in the State today Monday 13th September. However, the guidelines further stated that boarders in the Lagos State Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools will have staggered resumption.

While SS2 students seeking promotion into SS3 class are expected to resume on Sunday 19th September, the newly admitted JS1 students into Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools will resume on Saturday 2nd October, 2021. Other returning students in JS 2, JS3, SS1 and the newly promoted SS2 in these various Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools are to resume on Saturday 9th October, 2021.
