LASG ADVISES STRICT COMPLIANCE TO CLOSURE OF SCHOOLS

In view of the Corona Virus (COVID-19) Pandemic and in order to safeguard the health of teachers and students in Lagos State, The Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, (OEQA) Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni is reiterating the need for both Public and Private Schools below the tertiary level in the State to adhere strictly to the directives of the Lagos State Government toward the closing down of schools from Monday, 23rd March 2020.

In a statement released by the DG, OEQA (Lagos State), evaluators have been strictly mandated to monitor compliance to the directives of Mr. Governor, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to stop the spread of the COVID-19 toward public safety.

Schools intending to hold special sessions on Saturday 21st, and Sunday 22nd, March 2020; or write examinations before the said date should desist from doing so. This would be contrary to the directives of Mr. Governor that all social gatherings or any gathering of sort, with more than fifty people, remain banned.

In line with the recent developments of COVID-19, all principals and school owners are advised to note that failure to adhere to these directives may endanger the lives of students and teachers which violate the Lagos State Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

Parents are advised to ensure that their children stay at home. No child should be sent to any tutorial center or camp as this poses the same danger to their health and the larger community.

All students must be informed on the basic precautionary methods and hygienic practices which include giving social distance, avoiding large gatherings and close contact with sick persons, regular handwashing with soap, and the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

Strict compliance with these directives is strongly advised. Failure to adhere to do so will attract sanctions that may include the closure of the school indefinitely. This is in the best interest of our children and Lagosians-at-large.

Dated this 20th day of March 2020.

SIGNED
Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni
DIRECTOR-GENERAL
