LAGOS OEQA MONITORS WASSCE

The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), in its determination to guard against examination malpractice and ensure strict compliance with WAEC examination guidelines has embarked on monitoring exercise since the commencement of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in both private and public schools within Education District II.

The Coordinating Director of OEQA, Mr. Remi Abdul, on Monday, led the monitoring exercise to Alapere Community Senior Secondary School before the commencement of the examination where he stated that the State Government would not tolerate any form of malpractice. He warned that anyone caught engaging in such acts would face the full consequences.

He admonished students to avoid carrying any incriminating materials and to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations governing the examination.

Speaking further, Abdul encouraged students to put in their best efforts, emphasizing that English Language is a prerequisite for admission into higher institutions and therefore must be passed along with other subjects.

He also stated that the State Government had invested significantly in students’ preparation for WASSCE through initiatives such as the Eko Learners Support Programme, compulsory early morning and afternoon intervention classes.

According to him, these initiatives were intended to enhance students’ academic performance, particularly in external examinations.

He urged the students to reciprocate the government’s gesture and commitment by excelling in the examination and wished them success.

Mr. Abdul and his team also inspected the facilities in place to ensure a safe and conducive environment for the examination.

Earlier, the Director of Monitoring and Investigation, Mrs. Khafilat Ashimi, noted that the monitoring exercise was ongoing and would continue until the final day of the WASSCE, scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The exercise will span the six education districts.

Schools visited during the exercise included Alapere Comprehensive Senior High School, Alapere Community Senior High School, Hogas International Schools, Assfood International College, S&J College, and the Apostolic Church Senior Secondary School, Ketu, among others.

The monitoring team also included Director of Quality Assurance, Mr. Taofeek Ajibade; Coordinating Director of Education District II, Mrs. Olubunmi Adekoya; Director, Approval, Mrs. Kehinde Ogunlana; Director of Public Affairs, Ms Adepeju Adeyemi; Zonal Director, Zone ll, Mrs. Kitan Adesemoye; and Assistant Director, Monitoring and Investigation, Mr. Lookman Mutaru amongst others.
