Honourable Commissioner  for Ministry of Basic &  Secondary Education announces 21st Edition of Spelling Bee Competition

The Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, has announced the commencement of the 21st Edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition.

Addressing journalist recently , the Commissioner stated that this year’s edition promises to be exceptional, aligning with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

Alli-Balogun said the Ministry has made concerted efforts to ensure that the 2025 Spelling Bee stands out, demonstrating Lagos State’s commitment to excellence in education.

According to him, “We are proud to promote literacy and language development among our young people, and this competition reflects our dedication to nurturing these essential skills.”

He noted that the competition is being organized by the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) in collaboration with the New Era Foundation.

He disclosed that this year’s event will hold at the Eko FM Multi-Purpose Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 for the Junior Category (Primary School Students), and on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 for the Senior Category (Secondary School Students).

Mr. Alli-Balogun affirmed that the Lagos State Spelling Bee remains one of the most anticipated academic competitions in the State, an inspiring platform that enables students to display their spelling skills, confidence and intellectual depth.

In addition to several attractive cash prizes earmarked for outstanding participants, he said the overall winner of the Senior Category would automatically emerge as the Lagos State Spelling Bee Champion and assume the prestigious role of One-Day Governor, a unique opportunity that gives students firsthand exposure to leadership and governance.

To ensure a seamless and impactful event, the Honourable Commissioner explained that a planning committee, was inaugurated earlier in October.

Continuing, he said the committee has since begun work and held strategic sessions with technical partners, including a renowned quiz master, to uphold the high standards and integrity for which the competition is known.

The Honourable Commissioner assured that the 21st Edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee promises to be engaging, innovative and memorable, with exciting features designed to enrich the experience of participants and guests alike.

The Spelling Bee Competition will continue to inspire excellence and nurture future leaders.
